FAQ
01
Do I have to undress?

No, you don't have to. If you do want to remove some clothes it is always to your (and our!) comfort level. Usually, if you do wish to undress, you'll be draped with a cloth. Its really important that you feel comfortable during the session and we are experienced at raising the topic. We understanding that for many people, whether for religious, sensory, or personal tolerances, the preference is to remain clothed.
02
What should I wear to the session?

Wear something that you are comfortable in if you are wearing it during the massage.
Typically, that is either underwear, and/or shorts. It is beneficial to wear a rear opening top (ladies) if you want your back and shoulders to be treated, however, we work in whichever way makes you feel comfortable. You will not be exposed at any time.
03
What happens in a typical massage?

After we have welcomed you to your appointment, we will have a chat about the reason for your visit and ask you to complete some paperwork relating to your health, and injuries or other matters that will help our therapists to treat you appropriately to your needs.

Next, we will invite to prepare yourself for the massage and provide instructions as to how to sit or lay on the couch.

We really welcome feedback on how you are throughout the session, and if you need help, perhaps with clothing if you are injured, or maybe you need some support to move about, we will do our very best to help and make you feel comfortable.

During the session, the therapist will use their hands to massage you as appropriate to pinpoint the discomfort and apply techniques that work towards the agreed goals.

Your therapist will feedback what they are finding as they go and are always happy to discuss the anatomy or physiology they are working on, discuss your injuries and help you to understand.

After the session, the therapist will be on hand to answer questions.
04
I have allergies. What oils and lotions will you use?

Its really important to disclose your allergies, so the therapist can select the best wax, oil or lotion for your needs. If you wish to, feel free to bring a lotion of your own, especially if you know it works for you.

05
How do I make payment?

You can pay for your session in advance on our website at time of booking, or you can pay on the day with card or cash.
06
Will a sports massage be painful?

No. We are firm believers that massage should always be a comfortable experience! If you are feeling any discomfort before the appointment, perhaps and injury, please do tell us about it and we will work sensitively to try and help your tissues and not make you feel more uncomfortable.

That doesn't mean that a massage cannot be firm, however! Some people prefer to be touched in a more definite way - please do let your therapist know so they can make adjustments where needed.

When can I have oncology massage?

We are happy to see you at any time that works for you. Please do speak to your medical team and take their advice however.
In some cases, we will need to have written consent from your oncology team. Where you are under going treatment currently, or within the last six months, or those with a palliative diagnosis, it is required to have the written consent of a medical practitioner prior to undergoing any treatments by The Body Dynamics.

For those whose last treatment was not within the last six months, but was within the last five years, it is required that you have the permission of a medical professional prior to receiving oncology massage (verbal confirmation from the medical professional to you is acceptable). We are happy to receive your informed consent in this case and do not have to have a written medical note.

Is it a good idea to work out immediately before or after a sports massage?
